What makes a 'good' brand guide for PaletteCheck extraction?

After working with many brand guides, here's what produces the best extraction results:

Essential Elements:
✅ Color swatches WITH hex codes (not just visual)
✅ Font names explicitly stated (not just shown)
✅ Brand voice described with specific characteristics
✅ Clear do's and don'ts for logo usage
✅ Text-based PDF (not scanned images)

Nice to Have:
  • RGB, CMYK, and Pantone values for colors
  • Font weights and sizes for different uses
  • Example content showing voice in action
  • Photography style descriptions
What Doesn't Extract Well:
  • Colors shown only as images
  • Fonts displayed without naming them
  • Vague descriptions ("be professional")
  • Scanned or image-only PDFs

Pro Tip:
Even a simple 5-page guide with clear specs works better than a 100-page guide with everything as images.

What's in your brand guide that extracted really well (or didn't)?
